SOUND PLAY! Mixed Ages Class, for ages newborn-5 years and their grown-ups:
Exposure, experience, and experimentation.
Children learn:
To recognize and respond to patterns of rhythm, melody, tempo and dynamics
To differentiate sounds- where they come from, and how they are made
How to use their bodies (small and large movement) in space as a response to music
To build community and trust: working with others toward a common goal
By:
Exposing them to quality music that is varied by its rhythms, tonalities, tempos, and cultural origins
Offering them freedom to move around and make their own choices within the classroom (no child is expected to โsit stillโ at this age!)
Presenting them with a wide variety of activities and instruments (shakers, scarves, parachute, rhythm sticks, jingle bells, resonator bells, and other surprises!) to experiment with sounds and movement
Allowing grown-ups to naturally model how much fun it is to make music!
